Living with IBS can feel overwhelming, especially when you're trying to understand what's driving your symptoms and determine the best approach to improving them.
The Gut Recovery Method is my structured approach to helping you move beyond guesswork.
Together, we'll identify the factors most likely to be driving your symptoms, prioritise the areas most likely to make a meaningful difference, and work through a personalised plan that evolves as your gut health improves.

Why understanding comes first
IBS is rarely caused by just one thing. For many people, it's the result of several factors interacting over time - from changes in digestion and the gut microbiome to stress, hormones, food intolerances, medications and past illness.
Understanding how these factors may be influencing your symptoms helps us identify where support is needed most.
From there, we can prioritise the strategies most likely to make a meaningful difference and develop a treatment plan that's tailored to your individual needs.

The 7 foundations of the Gut Recovery Method
The Gut Recovery Method follows a structured pathway through seven key foundations of gut health.
While this provides a clear direction for recovery, every treatment plan is personalised to your individual symptoms, health history and goals. The pace, priorities and strategies within each foundation are tailored to your needs and refined as your health improves.
1. Complete essential medical testing
Some medical conditions can cause symptoms similar to IBS or contribute to ongoing digestive symptoms. I'll ensure any important conditions have been appropriately considered or ruled out by your medical team. If needed, I may recommend additional testing or discuss referrals with your GP or specialist.
2. Identify and address the underlying contributors
IBS symptoms can be influenced by many different factors. Together we'll identify the contributors most relevant to you so we can prioritise the areas most likely to improve your symptoms.
3. Support healthy digestion
Healthy digestion is about more than avoiding discomfort after eating. Digestive function influences how well you break down food, absorb nutrients and support overall gut health. Where appropriate, we'll incorporate strategies to optimise your digestive function.
4. Personalised dietary changes for symptom relief
Nutrition plays an important role in managing IBS, but there is no single diet that works for everyone. Where appropriate, we'll use targeted dietary strategies to help reduce symptoms and provide meaningful relief while we continue addressing the underlying contributors to your IBS - with the goal of avoiding unnecessary dietary restrictions long term.
5. Develop sustainable lifestyle habits
Stress, sleep, movement and daily routines can all influence the way your digestive system functions. We'll identify practical lifestyle strategies that fit your circumstances and support long-term improvements in both your gut health and overall wellbeing.
6. Build healthy eating habits for long-term gut health
Once symptoms have improved, we'll focus on building eating habits that support your long-term gut health. This may include increasing dietary variety, nourishing your gut microbiome and developing sustainable routines that help you maintain your progress long after treatment has finished.
7. Reintroduce foods and build confidence
Many people with IBS find themselves avoiding more and more foods in an attempt to manage their symptoms. One of the goals of the Gut Recovery Method is to reduce unnecessary long-term dietary restriction. As your gut health improves, we'll gradually reintroduce previously avoided foods where appropriate, helping you expand your diet, meet your nutritional needs and build confidence around food.
Every person's journey is different. Together, we'll prioritise the foundations most relevant to you and work through them step by step.
